The Story of Kati Kim Family

The disappearance of Kim family” was the biggest rescue mission in Oregan’s history. The Kims went missing on Thanksgiving 2006. Husband James, wife Kati and their two young daughters, Sabine and Penelope, had been on a road trip when a wrong turn left them desperately lost in the Oregon wilderness.

“Sabine is seven months old and Penelope is four, so we’re just really worried about the kids,” James Kim’s sister, Eva Kim, told the media at the time.

Their intended shortcut turned deadly when they became stranded on a mountain road. Kim and her daughters, then 4 years and 7 months, were rescued Dec. 4. James Kim died of exposure and hypothermia after a 16-mile hike in ice and snow to get help for his family, and his body was found Dec. 6.

After nine days, the Kims’ car was spotted from the air.

Tim McGraw finds George Washington connection on 'Who Do You Think You Are?'

Country superstar (and actor!) Tim McGraw was the featured celebrity on Friday's (Feb. 11) episode of "Who Do You Think You Are?" on NBC. Over the course of the episode, McGraw researches his father's ancestry and discovers that he is descended from some of the first settlers of the United States and also has a connection to George Washington.

"Who Do You Think You Are" is in its second season, brought back after a well-received first season in 2010. The 2011 lineup includes Gwyneth Paltrow, McGraw, Rosie O'Donnell, Steve Buscemi, Kim Cattrall, Lionel Richie, Vanessa Williams and Ashley Judd.

Did you watch the episode? What did you think? We think the show's basis is fascinating and would love to be able to do that kind of research for ourselves. It also just tickles us that the executive producer is Phoebe from "Friends" (Lisa Kudrow).

Guandique Sentenced in Chandra Levy’s Murder

One of the District’s most sensational murder cases is finally over, with Ingmar Guandique being sentenced to 60 years in prison in D.C. Superior Court this morning.

It was quite a dramatic sentencing. Susan Levy, the murdered intern’s mother, pointed at Guandique in the courtroom, telling him "rot in hell." She ended her remarks by looking at Guandique and saying "finally, fuck you," according to TBD.

Guandique, who killed Chandra Levy, an intern in the Bureau of Prisons back in 2001, originally wasn’t fingered for the crime. Instead, U.S. Rep. Gary Condit of California was suspected, due to his affair with the young intern. (A media circus erupted—a maligned congressman makes for much better headlines than an illegal immigrant from El Salvador.)

The sentencing also apparently ends a story that's become part of local media lore. Years after the killing, The Washington Post devoted a seies of stories to the unsolved mytery back in 2008. But it was Amy Keller, a reporter at Roll Call, who actually first wondered if Levy really had been the victim of a random attack, instead of a malicious congressman. As she wrote in a 2002 Salon article:

Lady Gaga’s New Song Can’t Potty Train Toddlers But Her Older Stuff Can

The Monster Ball Poker Face revamped2 tweak Lady Gagas New Song Cant Potty Train Toddlers But Her Older Stuff Can

Lady Gaga's the real deal.

I’m into Lady Gaga. And I take a lot of heat for it. But I really don’t care. Overexposed though she may be, she still comes off fresh and provocative. Uniquely unaffected. The real deal in an industry laden with posers. Regardless of whether or not you share my high opinion of Lady Gaga, one thing’s for sure. She’s got a new song out — “Born This Way.” And I’m sure that everyone will go, well, gaga over it. She seems to have the golden touch.

Yet despite that golden touch and despite the fact that I’m a big fan, “Born This Way” will never touch my personal Lady Gaga favorite. For it truly helped me potty train the triplets.

See, I went through this phase when I used to sing whatever it was I was doing to my toddlers. Truth be told, I still do it, but not as often because it’s usually greeted with a chorus of “NO”s. But before they grew weary of it, they took great delight in me signing songs to them. One night when Caroline was away, I was preparing dinner for my little guys and my spontaneous show began inadvertently as I handed them their sippy cups of milk while singing made up words to the Kiss anthem, “Lick It Up.”

Really?Arnold Schwarzenegger Ready to Act Again: Terminator 5, Anyone?

While the temptation here is to say something like "he'll be back," that would just sound too cheesy and obvious.

So rather than play off his famous line from The Terminator, let's simply report that, yes, Arnold Schwarzenegger has announced that he is looking to return to the world of movies now that he's done serving as governor of Calilfornia.

"Exciting news," he tweeted today. "My friends at CAA have been asking me for 7 years when they can take offers seriously. Gave them the green light today."

See, there's hope for a sequel to Twins after all.

Jennifer Hudson to Oprah: I've lost 80 pounds

Thursday, singer Jennifer Hudson was absolutely bursting to tell Oprah Winfrey and her studio audience how much weight she has lost on Weight Watchers.

Her Weight Watchers leader Liz, however, was less enthusiastic. It seems she didn't want people to get caught up on the number of pounds as much as the need to change bad habits.

But after some discussion – and Hudson bouncing in her seat and saying "I want to tell it!" – she revealed the magic number.

"I've lost 80 pounds," she told Winfrey before the talk show host and some members of the audience gave her a standing ovation.

Resplendent in a gray dress and heels, Hudson told Winfrey she is still adjusting to her new body.

"It's like a brand new me," she said. "Sometimes I don't even recognize myself."

Hudson said she made the decision to lose the weight while she was pregnant with her now 2-year-old son, and she eventually went from a size 16 to a size 6.

Sharm el-Sheikh, Mubarak's New Home (PHOTOS)

Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, is reportedly Mubarak's new home.

Aside from having a website straight out of 1995, and being the new home for President Hosni Mubarak, Sharm el-Sheikh is a popular resort city on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula, in South Sinai Governorate, Egypt.

So what has Mubarak reportedly left Cairo for? Maybe a burger at the Sharm el-Sheikh Hard Rock Cafe just sounded really good.

Sharm el-Sheikh features quite a few major hotels such as Sharm el-Sheikh Four Seasons, Sharm el-Sheikh Marriott, Sharm el-Sheikh Sheraton, Sharm el-Sheikh Ritz-Carlton and even a Sharm el-Sheikh Holiday Inn.

Tourists from Egypt, around the region, and the rest of the world visit for Sharm el-Sheikh casinos, diving, long swaths of natural beaches, year-round dry and temperate climate, and discos.

What better place for an embattled President to "retire"?

This won't be the first time Sharm el-Sheikh has garnered attention for something other than being a resort city. The 2005 Sharm el-Sheikh terrorists attacks killed 88 people, mostly Egyptian tourists, and significantly set the local economy back.
Story continues below

Egypt's tourism industry is suffering because of the current turmoil, but with reports of Mubarak resigning, even if it is to Sharm el-Sheikh, it isn't unreasonable to assume this popular tourist destination will rise again.

For updates on the situation in Egypt, please visit The Huffington Post's live blog.

Listen New Songs Lady Gaga:Born This Way

Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' has finally been born.

After great buildup and anticipation, the Grammy winner has released the first single off of her new album, an anthem for the disaffected, discriminated, downtrodden and those who just like to dance. Boasting infectious beats and less abstract lyrics, Gaga and others -- including Elton John -- predict this may become a legendary anthem. Many are saying that it sounds, and expresses similar sentiment, to Madonna's hit "Express Yourself."

LISTEN below, and read the lyrics, which she posted last week. You can also see Gaga perform 'Born This Way' at the Grammy Awards on

6. Genetics

489valentineDNA 12 Science Valentines

Maybe you can help me out on this one. There’s no explanation of what this image really represents (besides love), and the original has been deleted. I think it may have something to do with DNA sequencing.

Update: Natalie helped me out (thanks!):

It’s the result of electrophoresis, where molecular biologists inject DNA samples into a gel and then use electric current to run them across the gel, since DNA is negatively charged. The banding patterns created, like in the image above, are then compared for similarities. For any forensics junkies, this is how they actually do DNA fingerprinting.

7. Medicine

550valentinecardio 12 Science Valentines

Sheila at Cheeky Magpie made a variety of valentines in the shape of an anatomically correct heart. She also posted the basic pattern that you can print out and use yourself. Hey, it’s a heart! It could be worse!
