2011 NFL Combine: Will The Chiefs Be Checking Out Any Quarterbacks?
After figuring out who ran the fastest, jumped the highest and lifted the most weight, the next question on folks' minds with the NFL Combine is how the quarterbacks did. The Kansas City Chiefs aren't in the market for a first round quarterback but, with the Chiefs backup quarterback situation, I think I'd be surprised if they didn't take a quarterback at some point in the draft.
Star-divide
If they are planning on taking a mid-round-or-later quarterback, they'll get a chance to see a few of them at the NFL Combine. Right now, there's just one quarterback that's not expected to throw at the NFL Combine (with the exception of Greg McElroy, who is hurt).
Expected to throw: Cam Newton, Colin Kaepernick, Jake Locker, Ryan Mallett, Andy Dalton, Ricky Stanzi and Christian Ponder
Not expected to throw: Blaine Gabbert
Most of these players will be selected in the first couple of rounds but a couple of the guys, like Dalton and Stanzi, may be available in the middle rounds.
Quarterback certainly isn't a need this second but QB Brodie Croyle isn't under contract for 2011 and, if he doesn't come back, the Chiefs will need another young arm waiting in the wings.
